With the warmer months slowly approaching, wine care during the heat becomes an important subject.
Here is some information on how to ensure your purchase stays at premium quality in warmer weather.
NEVER LEAVE WINE IN A HOT CAR
Wine quickly overheats in temperatures over 26ºC and even the best wine will spoil, resulting in the wine being “cooked”.
DO NOT EXPOSE WINE TO STRONG SUNLIGHT
UV rays can cause otherwise stable organic compounds in wine to degrade, ruining the wine.
KEEP VIBRATION TO A MINIMUM
Vibration disturbs the sediment that would otherwise fall to the bottom of the bottle as it is formed.
WINE & TEMPERATURE
Even a short exposure to extreme changes in temperature can cause chemical reactions that will ruin the wine. Always store in a cool place.
STORAGE
Store wine on the side, both corked and screw cap. This allows bottles to be monitored for poor seals, and reduces the chance of spoiling with air getting into the bottle.
“FOR MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT”
RED WINE—OPEN THE CAP AT LEAST 1 HOUR BEFORE SERVING
This gives the wine a chance to ‘breathe’ and ensures the flavours of the wine are at their best by the time you are ready to serve. An aerator can assist this process.
ALWAYS SERVE WHITES & ROSE CHILLED
Be sure to store any unused opened red wine bottles in the fridge in hot weather to keep them fresh.
